Walk In FERREIRA
SELF GUIDED PROGRAM

Located on a small elevation, surrounded by extensive plains, the town of Ferreira do Alentejo is today an important center of agricultural production with emphasis on the cultivation of olive groves and the production of olive oil. Legend has it that here there was a city with a Roman foundation called Singa, which was defended from barbaric invasions by the wife of a blacksmith, armed with strong iron mallets. Thus the name of the village would have been born. Only the memory of the Medieval Castle remains, as its stone was demolished in the 19th century to be used in the construction of the village houses and in its place to be built the cemetery. It becomes incredible as in lands with little relief and elevations, but strongly marked by water lines and irrigation systems, you can find such distinct landscapes and historical heritages so rich since a distant past.


 




EN2 National Road Best Trails

The EN2 National Road is one of the three transnational roads in the world, which crosses all of Portugal, from the northern border, with Spain, to the Atlantic, in the south. It covers ten municipalities in the territory of Alentejo, where we choose the best walking routes closer to the EN2. Walking all over the Alentejo seeing and feeling the different landscapes, taking the EN2 is a unique experience to live in the Alentejo.






 

The Mountains of São Mamede
7 Days Program - October to May (*)

Serra de São Mamede is a mountainous set of quartzite ridges that erupt in an immense ancient granite punch. Its highest point at 1015 meters is the highest in the whole Alentejo region and on days of good visibility, landscapes can be seen hundreds of kilometers away. The most humanized Natural Park in the whole country is located throughout its area, where the vibrant natural wealth lives in harmony with agricultural, forestry and human traditions since the remote Paleolithic. It is in this privileged territory that walking has fantastic challenges of landscapes and historical heritage.




 


Landscapes of Alqueva Big Lake

The reservoir formed by the Alqueva Dam forms the largest artificial lake in Europe with a total area of about 250Km2 and a total of margins that exceed 1100km. Undertaking with the main purpose of irrigating the whole of the lower Alentejo is today a reason for tourist attraction for several municipalities and localities bordering the lake and which are under the influence of their irrigation. In several places we can walk on several pedestrian routes and see the gradualness of a fantastic territory in which the warm colored fields contrast with the freshness of the crystalline waters of the great lake.

The Hotel Monte Filipe is a modern and elegant accommodation unit - 4 Star Hotel - built in 2012. The name of the hotel comes from the ancestral name of the hill where it is located, in full rural surroundings, but practically in the center of the village of Alpalhão. It has easy access by the main communication routes and is located at exactly the same distance from several historical locations, places of interest and diverse and sublime landscapes.
