Walls Smugglers Mountains Vultures Water Wine
There is always a time to return to the old smuggler’s
paths, up there where the Alentejo has mountains, where vultures fly
over the cliffs, where the walls divide the chestnut woods. Always the
walls, always the stone, always the granite. Water flows abundantly
over the cliffs and fountains and, at the end of the day, we taste the
wine from the clay pot, a millenary heritage of Roman civilization.

In MARVÃO
SELF GUIDED PROGRAM
3 or 6 Days Program - January to December
(*)
Groups from 2 participants
The Marvão Village is located on a huge rock, in a quartzite
crest that is part of the Serra de São Mamede. Its foundation
dates back to the 9th century during the Muslim period, having its name
originated in one of its great lords - Ibn Marwan.
Around the high mountains there are several water courses and springs
of pure and crystalline water, which provide the existence of fertile
agricultural land and excellent conditions for human settlement. It
is through these dream scenarios, with a rich and diverse historical
heritage, that it is possible to walk in complete safety on a well-organized
network of walking routes completed with specialized visits to the most
important places in the territory.

Walk
In FERREIRA
SELF GUIDED PROGRAM
3 or 6 Days Program - January to December
(*)
Groups from 2 participants
Located
on a small elevation, surrounded by extensive plains, the town of Ferreira
do Alentejo is today an important center of agricultural production
with emphasis on the cultivation of olive groves and the production
of olive oil. Legend has it that here there was a city with a Roman
foundation called Singa, which was defended from barbaric invasions
by the wife of a blacksmith, armed with strong iron mallets. Thus the
name of the village would have been born. Only the memory of the Medieval
Castle remains, as its stone was demolished in the 19th century to be
used in the construction of the village houses and in its place to be
built the cemetery. It becomes incredible as in lands with little relief
and elevations, but strongly marked by water lines and irrigation systems,
you can find such distinct landscapes and historical heritages so rich
since a distant past.

At the top of a rock, in the past almost impossible to reach, rises
the Medieval Village, once a stronghold of Muslim peoples and Christianized
by the advance of the first kings of Portugal. The old Arab castle grew
and a whole line of walls defended the Medieval VIla which, today, has
become a living museum with landscapes overlooking the plains and the
Great Lake Alqueva. The walking routes of this program will go through
ancestral paths around Monsaraz and in the surrounding region in a program
that discovers hidden treasures and local populations that keep this

Walk
In Caminho de Santiago
ALENTEJO - RIBATEJO - LISBOA TAGUS RIVER - ALGARVE
GUIDED OR SELF-GUIDED PROGRAM
The
Caminho de Santiago is a message of hope that goes back to the days
of the Christianization of the Iberian Peninsula. Throughout the conquest
of the lands from the Moors, called "infidels" for professing
Islam, the new colonizers got used to giving thanks by returning, with
cross and shell, along the paths that once served to advance with the
sword. Perhaps in a desperate gesture of repentance, they seek redemption
from sins and eternal divine indulgences. Currently, the Caminho de
Santiago has an incredible demand, with some still searching for such
faith in the apostle São Tiago and many for reasons of personal
introspection, meeting with themselves or discovering new landscapes
and inspirations.
